Twitter was abuzz this weekend with a calamity over what an Amazon sales rep called a "glitch," but others are responding might be a general heterosexist misunderstanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender concerns. What happened? Amazon.com recently began removing titles with what they deem "adult content" from their book rankings. This so-caled "adult content" includes, among other things, books featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and even feminist ideologies or images. You can find responses to the dilemma below:

You say glitch, we say fail!
This is of particular importance for LGBT students and college-students-to-be! The Advocate College Guide, written by Shane L. Windmeyer (of Campus Pride fame), has also been stripped of the Amazon.com rankings and is now less accessible to LGBT students during their college search as a viable tool. While the Campus Climate Index is still an overwhelmingly useful tool, the Advocate college guide featured insider's knowledge to specific campuses across the country. For the University of Florida, for instance, information about residence halls populated most often by out LGBT students were listed, what religious organizations in the region were affirming, and where to spend Friday nights with the fellow queers. This sort of information isn't a part of the Campus Climate Index, which is filled out by campus administrators, not students. You can still find a copy of the Advocate College Guide on Amazon here: Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students...
But if you do purchase from them, keep this in mind: now when you search "homosexuality" on their site, the following four resources pop up first:
(1) A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality by Joseph Nicolosi and Linda Ames Nicolosi
(2) You Don't Have to Be Gay: Hope and Freedom for Males Struggling With Homosexuality or for Those Who Know of Someone Who Is by Jeff Konrad
(3) For The Bible Tells Me So ~ Gene Robinson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Imogene Robinson
(4) Can Homosexuality Be Healed? by Francis MacNutt
... three of four are anti-gay literary propaganda bent on curing "the homosexual." We should be thankful, I guess, that "For the Bible Tells Me So...", a fabulous film on the intersections of Christianity and sexual diversity, made it through the cracks. Care for a taste test of this film? Check out this youtube clip: "For the Bible Tells Me So..." cartoon clip
Of interesting note... it seems Amazon's Canada site hasn't been affected the same way! Searching for homosexuality on Amazon.ca brings up books like "The Gay Man's Kama Sutra." Heh, for some reason I'm not surprised Canada did it better.
Oh, and my signature: a song. Try this one! I'm a huge Earthbound/Mother fan - Earthbound Zero Remake Music: Nightmare Battle

Evan, your love for Mother is fantastic.
But yeah, this is pretty horrific. Hopefully they will fix this abomination soon.
