International Students Orientation: GLBT in or out?

All summer long I had been working at finding ideas and various ways to bring more GLBT visibility and awareness to our international community on campus. As an orientation leader for international students, I found myself unsure of how to go about incorporating the topic throughout our daily routine of campus tour and discovery for these new students we were receiving. I finally decided to make the topic part of one of our ice breaker and it ended up being a success in itself as it got both new and returning international students talking about GLBTA.
Knowing that I belong to both the GLBTA community and the international students’ community here at Bridgewater State College, it is very important for me to make sure that I develop a visibility for both those group in my work on campus. For this semester, a project that I hold dear to my heart has to do with hosting a discussion where all these students would come and feel free to talk about their personal opinions on Queer related issues, while the students from all over the world, educating others on how present is homosexuality in their own country. We are all curious about hearing various cultures ideas and opinions of GLBTA.
