Race is Over: Campus Pride Still Claims Victory in Final Lap for RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2; Buff Ranks in Top 25

(Charlotte, NC – August 4, 2009) – The race is over. Campus Pride’s founder and executive director Shane Windmeyer, otherwise known as "Buff Faye All You Can Eat," ran short of making it on the RuPaul’s Drage Race Season 2; however, Campus Pride still claims victory in the final lap.

“Campus Pride may not have made the show – but we have been victorious. The online competition has brought unprecedented traffic to the Campus Pride website and a broader awareness to the work we do,”said Shane Windmeyer, founder and executive director of Campus Pride. “Buff Faye thanks all her ‘Team Buff’ fans who voted and plans to keep trying – one way or another to get Campus Pride out there and to support our work.”

Buff Faye, who is best described as a camp drag queen, won the first round by being in the top 100 and the second round by being in the top 25. She then competed with the remaining twenty-five in the finalround. The goal was to be the number one vote-getter before July 8 and get the chance to audition for the hit drag race show. Last year’s online winner was Nina Flowers who went all the way to almost win the title of "America's Next Drag Superstar." This years online winner was just announced as Jessica Wild from Miami, Florida.

Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and ally college students, entered the competition to create visibility and to have a voice for youth issues on the show. “I know one day I will get that call from RuPaul,” said Windmeyer. “The flags may be thrown and the race is over… but our Campus Pride spirit is high!”

Buff Faye will be performing Sunday, August 16 from noon to 3 p.m. on behalf of Campus Pride at her monthly drag brunch at Hartigans Restaurant and Pub in Charlotte, NC. The drag brunch is the one and only event of its kind in the Queen City. More information online at http://www.bufffaye.com.
